Hi, friends! My name is Sydney. Welcome to Skyward. Skyward is a project of mine that began from a poem my father wrote before he passed called “The Falcon.” He died by suicide in August 2012, and this project full of light, adventure, music, art, and community created as a way for me to honor and remember his life, and bring community to other survivors of loss or those who just need a sense of warmth, love, and to feel a little less alone.
Here are the current non-profits I am fundraising for; you can donate at live performances or online:
Mission 22- My father was in the US Army for 22 years; Command Sergeant Major, Ranger, and overseas for Operation Enduring Freedom following the tragic events of 9.11.2001.
Breakthrough T1D- I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011. You’ll catch me wearing my MiniMed with pride!
AFSP- I wear gold for the loss of my father, silver for the loss of a soldier, green for self-struggle/attempt, teal in support of friends who struggle, and blue to support the cause and raise awareness.
The Trevor Project- For pride month, I fundraise for The Trevor Project as a queer woman and in support of my friends in the LGBTQ+ community.
RAINN- For the month of April, I fundraise for RAINN as a woman who has suffered from abuse and assault and to bring awareness to the ongoing struggle in the world today.
On this website, you can find my connections to these incredible organizations, my writing past, present, and future, my music journey, and my zig-zagged, mountainous path of healing from suicide loss.
Thank you for being here. The world is a kinder place with your light.
With so much love,
Sydney
